Blogging for Money – How to Generate Cash Online Writing About Something You Love
Thousands of people are flocking to the Internet to create their own blogs. These blogs can discuss an almost unlimited number of subjects – from muscle cars to fast food, from politics to candle making, and everything in between. It’s easy to see that the Internet has really made it possible for anyone to share their lives with the entire world.
Even though blogging is a lot fun (and very cathartic in some cases), a large number of folks are using blogs to actually make a large income from home. Using nothing but a computer, an Internet connection, and a bit of hard work, these individuals are blogging for dollars. Just how are they managing to do this while the vast majority of bloggers out there are not making any money?
Essentially, making bank from blogging requires three important ingreidents:
Creating Content
Every blog requires some sort of content. Without any interesting content, visitors just won’t stay on your blog to read anything. On the Internet, content is the king. First, consider what you would like to be blogging about. If you really adore fly fishing, write a blog that discusses your favorite fly fishing spots and best fly fishing techniques. Basically, blogs can be about anything, and if you create one about something you enjoy, chances are it will not even feel like work in the slightest!
While making your content, don’t worry too much about perfect grammar. Usually, it’s best not to use too much formal language and insteadgo for a more conversational style. Not only is this easier for the visitor to read and understand, but it will also give your blog a bit of your own personality. Just write as if you were speaking to a good friend in your living room. Even if you don’t think of yourself a writer, you’ll discover that writing becomes much easier using this method.
In regards to blogging platforms, Google’s Blogger or the venerable WordPress are good options.
Generating Traffic
The second component of the blogging formula is traffic – how to get visitors to find and read the super content you’ve setup in part one. There are generally two methods to get traffic to your blog, and each has its advantages and disadvantages. Let’s look at both of these ways in turn:
Paid Traffic
Essentially, this is known as advertising, such as banner advertising or pay-per-click. If you’ve got more money than time, this is an effective way to get traffic to your blog in a relatively short period of time. You can start off with a Google Adwords account and begin bidding on keywords that relate to your blog’s topic. To help you come up with keywords, you can use Google’s useful free keyword tool (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal). In the beginning, try to look for keywords that are “long tail” – keywords that are being searched for, but have relatively less competition. These are in most cases 3-5 word phrases instead of phrases of one or two keywords. This will keep your cost per click low as you see how your blog does. While paid advertising can give you traffic in a hurry, it is, of course, going to cost you some cash.
Free Traffic
The second way is to receive free traffic. This way is not going to really cost you anything dollar wise, but it is a lot more time consuming compared to a paid traffic method. If you’re short on dough, learning how to get free traffic to your blog is an important skill.
Making Money
As soon as you’ve got traffic coming to check out your content, you now need to to monetize that traffic. By far the easiest way to do this is by becoming an affiliate for a pre-existing product. Websites such as Commission Junction, Linkshare, and Clickbank make it easy to talk about other people’s products and put money in your pocket every time you refer a sale. As soon as you sign up for an account, you will gain access to a wealth of products and services that you could be promoting on your blog.
