Western vs English and Leather vs Synthetic?
A friend just asked me about a paper she is writing. She needs one advantage and disadvantage for western vs english saddles and leather vs synthetic. I said for the saddles the western generally gives better support for longer rides but is heavier and harder to jump in. I have no clue for the leather vs synthetic. Help?
Western saddles -
pros- better for long riding, better for riders who are spooked {something to hold onto} they are good for gaming, easier to fit then english saddles
cons- they are heavy, can’t feel you horse that great, you can’t really jump because you can’t get into two point without horning yourself, feet can get stuck easier in stirrups {or at least IMO}
English -
pros- good for jumping,you can really feel your horse, can be super confy, makes posting easy, lighter and good for starting horses in
cons- can’t do most gaming in them, nothing to really hold onto,harder to get one that fits
Leather
pros- last a long time,looks better, made better,
Cons- has to be cleaned,cant get wet
Synthetic
pro- more grip, can get wet, no need to clean just hose off, cheaper
Cons- made poorly, doesn’t look good and they don’t last very long can get tears wereas leather will just get a scratch
