Compute the speed of the Chief of Police immediately prior to the collision.

so μ*(M+m)*g*x = 1/2(*M+m)*v^2
so v(after collision) = sqrt(2*μ*g*x) = sqrt(2*0.60*9.8*42.1) = 22.25m/s

so from conservation of momentum in the x (The chief momentum = x component of the combined momentum)
M*v = (M + m)*v(after)*sin(67.7)
so v(Police car) = (M + m)*v(after)*sin(67.7)/M = (1412 + 2033)*22.25*sin(67.7)/2033 = 34.9m/s
This = 34.9/0.447 = 78.1mph
