Two weeks later, I passed the stone, which didn’t hurt. It just felt odd.
The Base Camp trek does not start with enormous peaks and incredible vistas; it starts with deep valleys and little farming villages. It also begins with a magnificent flight into Lukla – the nearest road is 5 days’ walk away. Possibly simply because of this the Khumbu is truly a fascinating mix of the old plus the new. And we witnessed each on the walk up to Namche Bazaar, the major village of the area. At 3,450m, Namche offered the best opportunity to each acclimatize to the thin air and make a leisurely exploration of the Sherpa heartland.
More recently, my newest kidney stone just produced me uncomfortable adequate to curl up into a ball on the floor and attempt to pass out for a couple hours. This lasted for more than a month prior to the stone finally passed.
