Choosing a new watch
How do you approach choosing your new watch? Some people collect watches as if they were going out of fashion, which I suppose if you think about it, they do! You will find that there are some people who choose not to wear a watch. it may be difficult for anyone to make a choice that suits them. Possibly the alternative thought is that having a mobile could have effected the need for a watch completely.
There are so many designer watches on the market, it is hard to know where to begin when trying to make a choice. Are you buying because you rely on it as an essential time piece, or is it more important to make a fashion statement? The choosing process is quite subjective to the user, and this must be considered when tailoring to an individual.
There are two main systems of movement within a watch – quartz and mechanical. Quartz movements rely on a battery for their operation. They are extremely accurate, losing only a few seconds every month. The battery life is also between one and two years, adding some extra appeal. The operator provides all of the power in a mechanical movement system, by manual winding. These mens watches and ladies watches generally last longer and are cherished as traditional. They have often been passed down through the generations, and contain the intricacies of true craftsmanship.
Nowadays the materials used for the casing vary from plastic to precious metals including gold, silver, platinum and stainless steel. Plastic cases are normal, along with funky bright colours suitable for anyone young at heart. Choosing one of these, means it it for now and would be best in the form of a quartz mechanism. Probably the watch will have an aluminium or rubber casing, with the option to change the type of wrist band.
