Sculpture ideas for ChattaCon art show?
I am making things out of Sculpey to bring to a convention and put in the art show. so far I have made a silver-white elephant with tiny faery wings on its back.. it is cute and pretty. I also have some sculptures of various internet memes made, along with a couple of faeries. But i need more ideas for things to make. I’m pretty good with faeries and angels, but I am running out of ideas. Can anyone give me some ideas?
1. Keep it family friendly. There is a strong line between art and porn. This means no naked people or suggestive poses. I also won’t do drugs and excessive gore. (I probably shouldn’t do any gore because my mom will have to see it and she’s… well you know.)
2. Tell me what it is, what colors I should use, how to pose it, etc. If you like you can give me a title.

It is amazing to me how far into the data on the site you have to go to simply find out what Chattacon actually is. The first answer here can be interpreted in several ways including “there is too much Sculpey already” and “the quality of the art is much higher than the stuff usually made out of Sculpey”
Assuming you know your target and guessing from what I found on the artist application for the show, almost any animal with wings would meet your goals and you might create a scene in which a mother beast with large dramatic wings is teaching/feeding/cleaning the face of a small beast with tiny undeveloped wings. An egg, partially cracked open with head, arm, and wing of a dragon climbing out would be a compact sculpture without having to do 4 legs and two full wings nor support the animal on thin legs – a problem with sculpture.
Depending on the size and scale you are working in, you could show people having problems with beasts that are normally had with donkeys, mules, horses, etc., such as refusing to get up, bucking the rider, two fighting with their heads while in harness, but instead of those named domestic animals, make it dragons or unicorns or the various beasts of science fiction.
I recall a memorable image and story from a magazine several decades ago of a huge dragon that had a village built on it because it was asleep and covered with dirt and trees and looked like a cliff and something woke it up. The contrast of the tiny little houses on the ridges of the dragon’s legs and slope of its neck as its head pulled out of the ground cover was dramatic.
