Window Curtains : An Art Form With Uncountable Benefits

Window curtains are such beautiful accessories in our home these days. But, unfortunately their cousins – the venetian blind and the vertical slats, have taken over the market and saturated our window space. If you are still one of those that love a material curtain, then good for you.

Remember what our window coverage was in the old days? Drapes that weighed a tonne, with meters of material hanging from heavy rod covers. It was nice in it’s time, but today the saying of “less is more” is very apt. The less material you use on your windows, the more money you save.

So what do you do if you are faced with a home with large windows? Firstly, you need to solve three problems like; privacy, safety and the strength of light that comes into a window during the day. Let’s look at these factors on their own.

Privacy can be solved by keeping a curtain drawn at all times. Or, you could have a look at when it is most likely that someone can see in, and draw the curtains accordingly. But, with a busy life style one forgets to close an exposed window, so it stays open.

An exposed window also makes the house vulnerable when you think of safety. Many people have shutters installed onto their window frame to give them the best of both worlds. You can tilt the slats to be able to see out, but passers by would not be able to see in. Another option would be to buy mirror film and attach it onto the actual glass of a particular window. This one way mirror with let you see outside without anyone knowing you are standing there.

There is nothing so wonderful than having gorgeous sunlight streaming into ones home. We love it especially on cold winder days. But when you want to sleep just that extra hour, you are bombarded with the sun’s rays.

Being prematurely woken up by sunlight is annoying and interrupts your sleep pattern. It will cause problems down the line for those who have light curtains in their room. You could solve this by having your curtains lined properly with special heavy backing material. Or you could purchase ready made Window curtains in the store.
