Learn To Play Piano And Pedals
If you are set to learn to play piano, there are many choices available for you to choose from. If you want to start by yourself, there are several music books and other references that you can use as a guide to learn the piano techniques and musical theories.
The body or casing, pedals and the black and white keys are the basic parts of the piano. The casing includes the strings the produce the sounds while you press the keys that make the sounds. Pedals offer added effects to the piano sounds.
These are found at the front part of the piano and can be accessed with your foot while you are sitting. Usually, there are two pedals on a piano, but some pianos have three pedals. To be able to use the pedals properly, here are a few things that you should know.
In a piano with two pedals, the left one is the Una Corda Pedal. In three-pedaled pianos, it is truly the left most pedal. The effect of this pedal is to soften the sounds produced by the piano. It is so very simple to play with this pedal by using your left foot. When browsing through a sheet music, press this pedal when you see the words “una corda” and release it when you see “tre corda”. Sad songs or songs with a relaxed tone can be projected with this melodic sound variation in the notes.
The middle pedal in the three-pedaled piano is the Sostenuto Pedal. To use it, you must step on it using your right foot. When this pedal is stepped on, the sound it produces is somewhat sustained tone, but only on specific keys and not all of the notes are sustained. Notations for the use of this pedal change according to the composer of the music, but the general cue to use it is “Sost. Ped”.
Whether the piano as two pedals or three, the right most pedal is always the Sustain Pedal. It is different to the Sostenuto Pedal in such a way that it produces the sustained sound for all the notes played while it is stepped on.
Use this pedal by stepping on it with your right foot. Use this pedal when you find “Ped” on the music piece.
