Innovative Stocks And Handguards From VLTOR
VLTOR have a great history of innovation in the design and manufacture of weapons and accessories. They now manufacture some of the best AR15s and even make PKM machine guns. VLTOR have won a dedicated following within the US Army and Special Forces community. The mid 1950s vintage M14 rifle has experienced quite a comeback in the War on Terror. It’s ergonomics, however owe more to 1900s parade ground drill than to effective weapon use. To make the most of the tremendous hitting power of the 7.62X51 cartridge, several manufacturers have come up with modern stocks and rail systems. The VLTOR M1A stock provides a ‘straight line’ recoil path for decreased muzzle climb. VLTOR took the existing USGI fiberglass stock and added a cunningly machined extension on which they mount their EMod stock. The extension allows one inch of vertical movement to enable the stock to be set up for iron sights or optics. The buffer tube allows five lenght of pull settings. Accessory mounting is via a VLTOR CAS14 hand guard rail system. This stock has been adopted by Springfield for their M1A SOCOM II rifle. They call the CAS14 the Cluster Rail.
The VLTOR EMod is a very innovative and popular AR15 stock. Made of polymer, with an aluminum strike plate, the EMod has no less than three storage compartments. There are two full length saddles that give a great cheek weld and can each take no less than three AA or two CR123 batteries. There is another compartment under the front of the stock that can take another two AAs. With the VLTOR M1A stock the tube extension offers another compartment for a complete cleaning kit. There is a sling loop molded into the top of the stock and a receptacle for a push button swivel for a singlepoint ambidextrous sling. The Emod offers a really good cheek weld and has become a very popular stock with servicemen and law enforcmement personnel.
VLTOR’s handguard system for the M4 differs in offering a monolithic rail. The VLTOR CAS-V has a top rail that extends two thirds of the way along the flat top, allowing the BUIS rear sight to clamp directly to the M4′s flat top so as [not to be mounted too high~to be the right height for the USGI front sight. A total of five lengths of rail can bolt on to the handguard at five different angles. The CASV bolts to the flat top and adds less than one pound to the weight of the weapon. The rails are always matte black, but the CASV body can be had in matte black, flat dark earth or foliage green.
