Why is the painting “American Gothic” by Grant Wood named so?
I’m doing a project of Grant Wood…
…So you know, I kind of need to know this.
American from the nationality of its subjects and background, Gothic from the style of architecture visible in the Gothic window centered above the subjects.
Good luck with your project! You’ll also need to have a look at Jan Van Eyck, if you’ll be talking about Grant Wood’s style of painting.
