Rusty Stirrup Irons, how do I fix them?

So I left for college and I’m back home right now on a break and I found that my english saddle stirrup irons and my spurs have become rusty. What can I use to de rust them? I want to make sure that whatever I do does not damage my equipment. Any help would be appreciated!

Spray them with some WD-40 and let them sit in that for a day or so. Then come back the next day with a Doby scrubber (don’t use steel wool, it will make your problem worse) and scrub away. When you’ve gotten off all you can, spray them again with WD-40, let them sit, and wipe them off with a soft cloth. When you are away from your tack, ask your parents to spray them once a month with WD-40 and scrub off any rust they find. Or just bring them up to school with you and do it yourself, they don’t take up much space.
