HP Colour LaserJet 3000 Toner Review
Colour laser printing is currently taking over from the monochrome counterpart in lots of offices and also even though lots of documents may be produced in monochrome only, the ability to include colour is ever more important. This latest, smallish workgroup laser printer coming from HP is designed to supply the speed required any time a printing source is shared among several individuals.
Encased inside a cream and charcoal grey cover that has a small curve to its front panel to alleviate the ‘big cube’ appearance, the Colour LaserJet 3000 is actually a substantial device, although still light enough for being moved about by just one, muscular person. As typical, however these are with respect to draft prints and we saw our five-page text print finish in 21 seconds, providing a normal mode mono speed of 14ppm along with a colour speed of 3.75ppm. On their own, these aren’t bad rates of speed for a colour laser printer within this class. In real terms, though, for normal short print applications, you are talking less than 10 seconds more quickly when compared to a less costly printer, printing at, for example, 20ppm.
The print quality is a little bit variable. Mono text pages, whilst precisely produced as well as easy to read, appear a darker grey, as opposed to an accurate black. In comparison, colour fills, such as graphs and charts, print out darker than their on-screen counterparts by default (although you can fine-tune this). Picture prints also display a bit of colour shift, with blues veering a little towards the purple, and suffer a loss of lots of details within dark parts.
Yet again you are able to compensate for these conditions, most directly aided by the digital adjustments presented in the driver for contrast and digital flash, but it would certainly be good to see improved reproduction right from the box.
HP does not quote the noise level produced by the LaserJet 3000, but we calculated it at 64dBA, and that is loud. Whilst it may possibly go unnoticed inside a busy workplace, it might cause it to be difficult to take a phone call, if it was printing beside your desk.
The HP Colour LaserJet 3000 printer toner cartridges have photo conductor drums to develop the image in each colour, before the full image is transferred to the paper employing a transfer belt. The black cartridge will print 6,500 pages at five per cent, while the colour cartridges can be found in standard as well as high-yield versions. The standard yield cartridge generates 3,500 pages while the high-yield one, 6,000 pages, both at five per cent cover per colour.
Even though the Colour LaserJet 3000 utilizes HP’s new Colorsphere toner, we weren’t that impressed by the print quality.
