Manic Microwaves – A Recipe For Disaster
You’d be surprised how many people have a microwaves story or two to tell. However, those mental little blighters have won over our hearts and given us some great stories in the process. Whether yours turned your fresh salmon fillet into a spattered pink mess or incinerated your cottage pie, you’ll enjoy these. Here’s to the the microwave, all the best my dear old friend. Liberator of the lazy, and everyone who’s idea of cooking is… warming stuff up. Best friend of busy people and students across the planet. Using the snappy gadget you can whip yourself up a meal in minutes.
There’s the guy who decided to save time by nuking his family’s wet socks. This is all very well until you slip up one day and leave them a bit too long. At which point they heat up from the centre outwards, rapidly bursting into full flame. We all know how bad wet wool smells when it’s left in washing machines for days on end, well try wet wool that’s been set on fire by microwaves. It’s beyond nasty. However, you may not know that over-nuked socks are a great cat deterrent. The world is a very strange place.
There’s an urban legend on every continent about girls who dry their hair in their microwaves and come to a sticky end, boiling their heads in the process. Did they wash their do in dishwashers too!Best of all, in a typically British homage to the UK’s favourite kitchen appliance, there’s a Facebook page dedicated entirely to Lidl Microwave Doner Kebab, fantastic.
Then there’s the lady who misread the instructions on her Christmas pudding, leaving it to nuke unattended for almost an hour. After a narrow escape from an explosion, she opened the microwave to discover a thick sloppy mess that could only be removed through chipping at it with a chisel. Thankfully the resulting rock solid lump went on to give their puppy a year or more of pleasure as his favourite ball. And that’s another story about microwaves with an unexpected positive end. Tune in next for frenzied fridges.
