Compostable Tableware Now A Reality
Being wasteful is sadly something that has become the norm now. Close to 20mil cups, plates and other utensils are disposed of every day in the UK and US, causing a vast amount of unprocessable landfill. Tableware will likely always be a necessity, but we wouldn’t be the greatest species on earth if we couldn’t come up with some a little kinder to nature? Well one company in Richmond may now have the answer.
They have developed a complete range of biodegradable and compostable tableware that can be used in exactly the same way as ordinary products. They are free from chemicals and can be cleaned like ordinary pieces. However, when you come to throw them away, they can be placed in composters or buried and will break down naturally over time.
The company has been given a thumbs up from eco organisations and by local government, picking up a few important awards for their efforts. Their latest award came from a company that helps new, ethically motivated businesses find their feet. The company is called New Visions and run not-for-profit.
The new company was awarded $1,500 which they hope to invest in developing their range. Their range currently extends to 25 items, which include, mugs, bowls and cutlery. They are looking into making more utensils such a bottle opener and more detailed pieces like designer cheese knives
Jocelyn Tice who is responsible for building the company from start has suggested that she would like nothing more than to see her innovative tableware in shops all over the globe. “the benefits are simply limitless” she claimed. Waste production will be reduced dramatically, which will have the knock on effect of bringing down everyone’s costs.
As well and expanding her ranges, Jocelyn is also considering entering new markets with her concept, including furniture, packaging and even electrical appliances. She has also been approached by a number of larger companies who are interested in incorporating her products into their own table and glassware
