Tale Of The Truck Stop Romance
The open road is a magnet for people of all ages and personalities. It is a place where dreams come true, memories are made, tragedy strikes, and life and death struggle for dominance. Yeah, that sure sounds dramatic, but the truth is that many people spend thousands of hours driving somewhere. Life spans are riddled with road time, and not many people have anything to show for it. They rush to and from work, to and from the store, to and from the mall, to and from their homes, to and from the gym, to and from their mom’s house, and the list goes on until the car hits 100,000 miles and needs to be replaced with a newer and more fuel efficient model.
Life is measured by how much time you spend travelling, but you can make it count by deciding to travel with people you can build memories with along those long and lonely miles.
One of the loneliest professions in the world is the career of long haul trucker. A long haul trucker spends 16 hours on the road a day, driving their freight from one side of the country to the other. They see little to nothing of their families, and the only friends they have are on the other side of their CB radios. Sure, truckers now have access to fancy doo dads in their trucks that provide satellite radio, TV (for when they AREN’T driving), and WiFi internet. In some cases, being a long haul trucker can be an adventure, but most of the time the straight, lonely, dusty roads of life can get barren, depressing, and dull. What he wouldn’t give for something other than this. His freight of air compressor filters and Ingersoll rand compressor parts means nothing to him aside from the paycheck it brings, but what’s the point of all that money he’s been saving when there’s no one to spend it on?
So where does this sad fact leave this article? Well, despite what you may think about the trucker, they deserve some romance too. Sure, they might be rough, gruff, and pinch snuff, but they too should have a chance at romance. That’s when the truck stop romance becomes a Hallmark made for TV movie. The lonely trucker pulls into a truck stop he hasn’t visited in weeks, and slides his weary frame into a booth. His stomach is begging for food and strong coffee, but his soul is begging for a mate, someone to connect with, someone to share that food and strong coffee with after 10 years of open road, air compressor filter shipments and so on.
He tilts his head back and sighs in exhaustion, but the tiredness that wracks his bones immediately dissipates as he spies his waitress coming towards his table.
