Can anyone recommend books charting black history in America during the 1940s and 50s?
I am looking to research black history in America during the 1940s and 1950s. Could anyone recommend literature that would be of assistance? I am particularly interested in experiences for black people in the south during the period. Thank you.
This may be slightly off topic, but The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks took place in the 50s or 60s, I think, and it’s about a black woman who had cervical cancer and how her cells have basically changed the course of medicine. It’s a true story and it goes back and forth in time between the earlier 1900s and early 2000s. I really recommend it.
