What is the punishment for shooting and/or killing a bald eagle?

If Osama Bin Laden or any other person were to shoot or kill a bald eagle what would be there punishment?

A civil violation is punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 dollars per violation. A criminal violation requires wanton disregard for the law, and can result in up to 100,000 dollars in fines and one year in prison. For organizations, rather than individuals, the fine is up to 200,000 dollars. A second violation of the law is considered a felony, and can result in individual fines of up to 250,000 and two years in prison or up to 500,000 for an organization.

If you were to chase away bald eagles from your land, that would probably net you a civil violation. But if you were to purposefully kill them, or organize a bald eagle hunt, it would probably be a criminal violation.

A violation includes harassing, obstructing, agitating, harming, etc., not just killing.

There are several exceptions made for scientific purposes and native American tribes who use bald eagle feathers, amongst other things.
