Area Rugs to Accentuate your Home
These days, there are many types of rugs that are available in the market. But do you know where it actually came from? Area rugs are generally divided into two main classifications: the Western and the Asian. It was found out that Western Area Rugs originated in Spain during the 13th century. These were woven intricately by those from the Islamic nations and were then imported.
It was not until the 17th century that France became the popular maker of area rugs in Europe. The cities of Aubusson and Savonnerie became the centers of making rugs in the western world back then. But during the later years, England rose to become one of the famous makers of amazing area rugs. Soon, carpets were made by the use of machines. However, these were not as beautiful as those which where woven by hand. Plus, the machine-made carpets were inexpensive compared to those which were hand woven. Area rugs were said to have been made in Egypt during the ancient times. Most of these rugs were flat and were used in praying chambers and not for decoration.
During the 19th century, America produced area rugs that are reversible and made of wool. These kind of area rugs are popularly known as ingrain carpet. During those times, middleclass families have area rugs which were braided or made from clothing fabrics. Comparing the rugs before from today, the ones made today come in a wide variety of designs and materials. As time went by, the production of contemporary area rugs became more popular. Moreover, the materials are different from each other to provide added durability and to make it more fascinating. Some people these days collect area rugs to accentuate their homes. They even buy antique area rugs even if they are very expensive.
Modern day hand hooked rugs are less expensive but its design and colors come in a wide variety of options. In addition, area rugs can be used to decorate or to make the floor look so classy and alive. The hardwood floor can look like a piece of art when you put the perfect area rug. These rugs can also be used to define space in the living room so it would not look dull and boring. What are the factors in finding the perfect area rugs? First factor is the size of the room or the floor. Are you going to place it underneath a center table or at below the sofa? Make sure that the designs of the area rugs go with the interior of the house.
