Scholarships Are Available For Degrees In Specialty Nursing
It might be reassuring to know that colleges, universities and technical schools are adding campus-based and distance learning (online) programs in nursing. Minority Nurse Magazine, along with national nursing associations for blacks, Hispanics and Alaska American Indians are among the scholarship sources for minorities. The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, the Patsy Takeout Mink Education Foundation, the R.O.S.E. and W.I.S.P, and the Jeannette Rankin Foundation Scholarship Program. Change your World scholarships are said to extend scholarships tailored to single mothers. The American Assembly for Men in Nursing offers two scholarship programs for male students who want to pursue degrees in nursing.
Students can find scholarships tailored to a variety of specialty areas, from pediatrics to oncology. On the other hand, they can also apply general scholarships to nursing degree courses. W.R. Grace & Co. recently announced awarding 10 scholarships of $2,000 each to high achieving high school graduates attending college for the 2010-2011 academic years, as well as renewing 28 scholarships. Erica Comes, one of the new scholarship recipients, plans to apply hers to tuition and fees associated with an undergraduate nursing program at a university in her home state, the W.R. Grace Announcement noted. Researching accredited distance learning degree will work in your favor.
The one requirement that many scholarships have in common is that institutions are accredited by a nationally recognized agency. The U.S. Department of Education maintains a list of accredited institutions on its websites. With accredited institutions, students can also often apply scholarships to online courses as well as courses provided in a traditional campus classroom setting.
