American Dream

The American Dream – Where Did It Go
The American dream is still just a dream for a great many in the United States. With the current economic down turn across America and around the world, jobs are at a standstill, new hiring is almost nonexistent and many have been downsized or forced to retire. Shopping malls are like ghost towns. Very few free spenders anymore.
Working and saving to achieve the” American Dream” has turned to working to survive and feed the family. How long will it last you may ask, only time will tell! During the great depression, many ask that question, although I don’t think we are anywhere near the stature of the great depression.
First, let us consider what the American dream really is. Immigrants flocked to the United states from around the world, because, first and foremost the Americans are “FREE”, it’s the land of opportunity. The industrial age was coming into its own. Immigrants with very little education could come to America and start a business and become a wealthy person and in turn would be able to pass their estates on to the next generation.
Their children were able to receive the highest education available in that day. Many brought their skills and respective trades to help build America, their blood, sweat and tears are woven into the fabric of America. America was built by immigrants, they are the ones that created the entrepreneurial spirit that carries America today.
You see, the American dream is not just about getting a good job, starting a business, retiring with the means to take care of yourself and your spouse, it is being able to move and work within a “FREE SOCIETY” without being encumbered with rules by the regulatory agencies that pervade America today.
Owning homes and cars are only the fruits of the American dream, the American dream is having free course to pursue your ambitions in life, creating wealth for you and your family, having the means to live where ever you desire.
Nothing crushes the entrepreneurial spirit more than the “Big Dog ” standing over you and taxing your every move. In spite of all the changes in America today, the entrepreneurial spirit is still thriving and is growing out of the need to change the status of lives of those that dare to pursue a better life for themselves.
The industrial age has somewhat come to full age, but there is the technological age that has caught the eye of the entrepreneurial spirit in the people of today, it’s called the age of the Internet.
People from all walks of life are pursuing their American dream on the Internet. Creating businesses, jobs, services that keep the American dream alive.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik $5.22 With valuable assistance from producer Rick Rubin, the Peppers find just the right blend of punk, funk, and hip-hop. Even with a running time of 74 minutes, this 1991 breakthrough has continuity and cohesion both within and across the 17 cuts. Riding Flea’s surging bass, Anthony Kiedis delivers his explicit lyrics with a rapper’s flair, extolling the virtues (and outlining the dangers) of sex and … |

Carnival Ride $5.01 Carrie Underwood’s Some Hearts, hastily made and released some five months after she won the 2005 American Idol crown, was surprisingly solid and tuneful. Underwood co-wrote four songs, mostly with the tried-and-true tunesmiths who made Some Hearts soar… |

El Norte (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray] $18.25 The audience for El Norte splits into two factions. There are those who, ever since its 1983 Telluride Film Festival unveiling, have spoken reverently of it as a great film, “a Grapes of Wrath for our time.” And then there are those who find it a decent movie deserving of respect as passionate social protest, but seriously compromised by a Filmmaking 101 approach. Hailed as “the first epic” of the… |
